We have again and again and again (just to emphasize our efforts, there’s an extra again) tried to establish that tattoos are a work of art, and not just fashion or trend. We strive to make our readers understand and discover different forms of art, both in the ink domain and outside, and when one of our brethren decides to come up with a product pique our interest, we make sure the world knows about it.
Mykel Kumar, owner of The Pumpkin Patch has been on our watch list for quite some time. His education as an animator reflects well in his tattoos, and now in his stickers and post cards too.
The stickers and postcards were made specifically for Nepal Inked 2016 and that’s where Shubham (our Creative Director) saw them too. The next thing I know, I get images of the stickers with a text, “We have to cover this; crazy!” I call up Mykel, and he has a very simple explanation – “I really wanted to put up something on the stalls in Nepal and was thinking of ideas. I thought of posters too, but then carrying them all the way from Bangalore would have been a task. So, I stuck to stickers and postcards.”
Ask him if there was any profound thought behind them and he candidly said, “No man, it’s just about drawing. I like art and I like drawing. I have been thinking of doing these since quite some time and Nepal really put me on track.” The idea is simple, yet eye catching. The pieces are designed using three tones of each colour and he has really stuck to that range. “I didn’t want to make it complicated. If you notice, there’s not much shading work too.” These are simple old school stickers with a really funky and cool approach.
He plans to do more of these provided he gets a good response to them. “I would love to do more, make posters, stickers and postcards and whatever else I can think of if I get a good response. If people like them, why not! They can directly call me or message me on Facebook and I’ll be glad to help them.” He’s putting them up for 20 bucks a sticker and 50 bucks a postcard. Do you plan to order some?
